The Philoptochos Women’s Society of St. Athanasios is an organization whose primary purpose is aimed toward philanthropic endeavors and programs. All men and women in our parish may become members of this society, which provides for the disadvantaged and assists the church in many ways. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month.

I am so happy to be able to share St. Irene Philoptochos news with you again. The past eight months have been very challenging for all of us and I hope all of you and your families are healthy.
St Irene Philoptochos was able to hold its annual Tricky Tray in March and it was a success. I want to thank my executive board for their help and support for this event. Also, a big thank you to all who donated gifts for the event and all who attended to help work the Tricky Tray. Many thanks to Mr. John Kourkoulakos for donating the food for the Tricky Tray. Thank you to Mr. John Kourkoulakos, Mr. Kosta Nakopolos, and Mr. Dino Gourmos for working in the kitchen.
In June we held our first virtual fundraiser with Thirty-One. An online merchandise outlet that specializes in handbags, accessories, travel duffle bags, and home storage items. Zoe Luke, a Thirty-One representative, made the event a successful one for our Philoptochos. I would like to thank all who participated in the fundraiser. The profits from this fundraiser went to Covid19 relief. We gave supermarket gift cards to the food pantry in Paramus.
In September, we held our second virtual fundraiser with Pampered Chef. It was also a success and I would like to thank Pampered Chef representative, Lisa Harris, and our own Theodora Portelos for running it. Thank you to all who participated in the fundraiser. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards fulfilling our National and Metropolis Philoptochos commitments.
In October, we collected clothes, shoes and diapers for the Hellenic Relief Foundation. With the help of our parishioners, we filled five big boxes which will be given to the children of Greece for Christmas. Thank you to all who were able to give.
Currently we are holding two fundraisers. A Thanksgiving Spanakopita Sale that orders must be in by November 5th. We are also, holding our annual Greek pastries sale that orders must be in by December 6th with pick up on Sunday December 20th. We have both flyers on the church website. Hope that many of you will support both fundraisers. Because we are not able to hold our regular main fundraiser, the Fashion Show, in November we ask that you help us by ordering your spanakopita and baked goods. This way we will be able to help the many charities we give to every year.
I want to personally wish you all a happy, healthy and a joyous Christmas.
