Father’s Message – February 2016

Dear Parishioners,

The Vesper service of the Presentation of our Blessed Lord into the Temple contains a prayer which reads: “Lord, now let your servant go in peace according to your promise, because my eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared in the presence of all people, a Light to show to the Gentiles and for the glory of your people Israel.”  The eye-witness referred to in this short prayer was a man named Symeon who was privileged to hold the infant Jesus in his arms to be presented to the Father.

According to the Scriptures, Symeon was a man not only of Holy Spirit but of infinite patience as well, a highly intelligent scholar and deeply religious who knew from his interpretation of the Old Testament that the Messiah was to come.  He prayed not only for deliverance, but for the opportunity to remain alive just long enough to cast his eyes on the messiah.

Sunday, December 13th, 2015 is Stewardship Sunday!

Stewardship is an opportunity to examine our priorities and values, to express our thankfulness, to give of ourselves, and to grow in grace. For more details please read the Stewardship handbook 2016

Three Steps to Prepare:

Step 1: Review your 2015 stewardship commitment and consider increasing your 2016 commitment to help offset increasing operating expenses.

Step 2: Fill out your 2016 Stewardship Commitment Card.  Bring it to church on Stewardship Sunday

Step 3: Please join us for Stewardship Sunday Coffee Hour sponsored by your PTO; who is having their annual bake sale! And, Vote in Parish Council Elections. 

Our Parish depends on all of us to step up.  Our expenses have continued to increase the past few years putting increasing pressure on all of us to continue to raise funds. Our overall operating expenses for 2016 are expected to be $534,000 or $1,618 per steward – this should not be confused with the emergency funds (such as insurance claims) being used, as example, to repair our roof.  Historically, we try to offset the expenses per steward by fund raising, which is putting a lot of pressure on our fund raising committees. We recommend a minimum of $800 per our ~330 stewards and would appreciate giving generously within your means. Let’s make sure we start this the year with financial strength and focus on community!
