Philoptochos News

Dear Parishioners:

On behalf of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Irene, I would like to welcome you back from your summer vacations and wish you a Kalo Xeimona. Despite being away on summer vacations, our Philoptochos still had  business to attend to, and our Board Members have been busy putting together our fall schedule and  planned many exciting events.

We would like to congratulate Charlotte Joanidis, and her family. Charlotte  was the recipient of our Philoptochos Merit Based Scholarship. She graduated from Fairlawn High School and will be attending George Mason University in the Fall.

In July, representatives of our Philoptochos Elizabeth Paizis and Theodora Portelos attended the 2018 National Philoptochos Society Biennial Convention in Boston, MA. In addition to attending the conference, we visited Hellenic College / Holy Cross Seminary and were overwhelmed by their hospitality, and the beauty of the campus.   Our chapter was awarded a certificate for fulfilling 100% of our charitable obligations.   Some of the key notes speakers were; Tim Tassopoulos, President and COO of Chick-Fil A and Despina Karston, Author of Last Night’s Soup Run.

Some of the highlights reported at the convention were:

During the 2016-2017 business years Philptochos reported donating over $3.8 million dollars to charitable causes.

Since July 2016 Philoptochos has served over 1.343 million meals to the hungry.

We have set a goal of feeding 1.5 million hungry in 2019.

Philoptochos has produced information video’s to be found on website on anti-bulling, the opiod crisis, womens healthcare just to name a few.

Philoptochos is the 2nd largest women’s charitable philanthropic in the country with over 25,000 members, we have been meeting the needs of the hungry and those in crisis for over 87 years.

Please mark and save the dates for the upcoming Philoptochos Events in the Fall:
