Philoptochos News

Xristos Anesti!

On behalf of St. Irenes’ Philoptochos Society, we pray that you had a blessed Anastasi, and are enjoying a lovely spring!

In March we hosted a successful Tricky Tray.   On Saturday, April 6th, our Philoptochos Members, along with members of GOYA, GOYA Parents, and a few Sunday School Students participated in a snackpacking effort at the Center for Food Action in Garfield.   We donated the funds to send home snack packs to 500 students, who participate in the CFAs snack-pack program.    The weekend snack-pack program, sends home a snack-pack in the back pack of elementary school students in underprivileged areas, who ordinarily do not get regular meals on the weekends. The Center for Food Action provides 3500 of such meals per month.  Blessings and big thanks to those whom came out on a Sunday morning to donate their enthusiasm time and talent.

On Sunday, April 14th, we marched along with our Community in the Annual Greek Independence Day Parade on Fifth Avenue in New York City.   On Palm Sunday we hosted the annual Palm Sunday luncheon feast of Bakaliaro, Skorthalia and Fasolatha.  Proceeds of which were earmarked for 50% Hellenic College Holy Cross Seminar and 50% to replace Loukoumades machines.

On Sunday May 5th, we celebrate the feast day of our Patron Saint, The Great Martyr Saint Irene.  We will be sponsoring Artoklassia, and a luncheon on that day.       On May 13th, we will participate in the annual Metropolis Philoptochos Conference during the Clergy Laity at the Venetian.   Our past President, Karen Scoullos will be the Philoptochos Honoree during the Annual Clergy Laity Banquet that evening.   We thank Karen for her service and dedication to Philoptochos.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:30 pm.   We will be holding our biennial Board Elections on that Date.  We encourage all to attend.

As always, we thank you for your continued support.
