Philoptochos Introduction

The Philoptochos Women’s Society of St. Athanasios is an organization whose primary purpose is aimed toward philanthropic endeavors and programs.  All men and women in our parish may become members of this society, which provides for the disadvantaged and assists the church in many ways.   Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month.

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of St. Irene Philoptochos Society, I send you our prayers for a blessed Lenten period.    As we look forward to this most holy time of year, we must continue to think of those in need and remember to fulfill Christ’s teachings.

St. Irene’s Philoptochos will once again be awarding its Annual Scholarship.Graduating High School Seniors of the St. Athanasios Community are invited to apply.The Philoptochos offers ONE single scholarship of $1000 annually. This scholarship is an achievement based scholarship, the student and his/her family must be active stewards at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus, NJ.may be obtained from the Church Office or by contacting Thea Portelos or Rita Pavlou. Deadline for all applications is May 1, 2017.

We held our Tricky Tray on Thursday, March 16th.  A general round of thanks to all of those who donated cash or gifts to offset the costs of this event, as well as the Committee of Ladies who ran and worked the event.

Once again we will be hosting the Palm Sunday traditional luncheon immediately following Church Services on April 9th. Luncheon will include fasolatha, fish, and salad and will have pasta for the children. Please call the church office to reserve your table or you can see any Philoptochos member. The proceeds of this event are ear marked to provide much needed assistance for the people of Greece and Cyprus. The Heart to Heart campaign is to bring our hearts close to the hearts of all those in Greece and Cyprus and please pray for their wellbeing.

We are also sponsoring our annual Tsoureki sale.  Please be sure to get your Tsoureki orders into Xanthippi Nakopoulos or Dr. Karen Scoullos no later than April 1, 2017. For your convenience the order form is included in this mailing.

The Metropolis of New Jersey Clergy Laity Assembly and Philoptochos Convention will be held on May 8h through the 9th 2017, at The Venetian. The Grand Banquet and awards ceremony will take place on Monday evening May 8th at 6:30 pm.  If you are interested in attending please see a Philoptochos member or call the church office.

Thank you for your continuous support of Philoptochos. Every time you support Philoptochos, whether buying a Tsoureki or a ticket to Lord & Taylor’s event the impact that your donations provide is immeasurable.  Through your donations the quality of life for so many is greatly improved.
